The Simon Montgomery Duo performed at a fundraising event to provide resources for a group of health science students from Curtin University who are traveling to the Ukraine to work in orphanages with mentally and physically disabled children on Sunday the 20th March 2011.

The funds being raised from this afternoon are not going towards the travel or living expenses that are needed for each student taking part in this trip but rather for much needed resources and equipment that is taken for granted as normal in developed Western countries.
The theme of the fundraiser was a high tea and the music that was requested from was approximately 30 – 40 minutes worth of jazz music that would be appropriate for a cocktail style function. All of the music performed was to be played at a level to provide ambience and not detract from the social atmosphere.
The duo’s set commenced with Simon Montgomery performing solo on piano a number of jazz standards including Autumn Leaves, All the Things You Are and A Long Way Home to help set a mood that was inviting and relaxed whilst containing a

touch of style and sophistication. At the conclusion of these songs Simon Montgomery was joined by vocalist Ben Hall to perform a number of well known jazz standards including Have You Met Miss Jones, All of Me, Summertime, Moondance, Fly Me to the Moon and Tangerine. Ben’s vocal talents and ability to charm a crowd help create the ideal ambience for the afternoon and contributed to the success of the afternoon.
